Shared Leadership

According to the text, "Strong relationships are built and sustained when a team of teachers work together to ensure that instruction is tailored to improve student learning."(Burgess/Bates, pg. 21) How does this exist at Newark Valley? Please comment on the following questions:
  • What are the expectations for professional collaboration and relationship learning?
  • What structures are in place to focus on student learning and professional development?

    Currently at Newark Valley High School, professional collaboration and relationship learning takes place through conference days, department chair meetings, and department meetings. We also have the opportunity to participate in professional development programs offered through Model Schools(BOCES)and in the past, the Tioga County Teacher Center. Teachers have the opportunity to meet teachers from other schools and are able to learn about what other schools are doing in their subject areas.
